How to start up Mac Recovery Mode

Even the most seasoned Mac users have problems from time to time with their computers. To solve those issues, you can use macOS Recovery Mode. This powerful tool is known as Mac Recovery Mode or macOS Recovery Mode for short.

How to enter macOS Recovery Mode (Intel Based Devices)

In its simplest form there are three steps to enter macOS Recovery Mode:

  1. Restart your Mac
  2. As soon as your Mac restarts, immediately hold down the Command key and the R key at the same time. (Command-R).
  3. Wait until you see the Apple logo come up on the screen and then release the keys.

Boom. You’ve successfully entered your Mac Recovery Mode. It might take you a few tries to get here, but once you do, it’s the easiest way to reload your Mac.

How to enter macOS Recovery Mode on Apple Silicon Based Macs (M1)

If you have one of the newer systems based on the M1 processor the method of getting into the macOS Recovery Mode is a lot simpler.

  1. Turn on your mac and HOLD the power button down until you see the Startup Options Window. From there you simply choose macOS Recovery.
